How Many Tutoring Sessions Per Week Does My Child Need?
There is no single weekly schedule that suits every student. Begin with the learning goal and the time available for practice, then agree when to review the arrangement.
Separate ongoing support from urgent catch-up
A student who understands most lessons but needs help with occasional questions has a different need from someone missing several prerequisite topics. List the gaps and the assessment dates before deciding how many appointments to book.
Also consider whether the student needs one subject or several. Adding an hour for every subject can leave little time to use what has been taught. Ask which gap is currently stopping the most progress and start the discussion there.
Choose a starting plan with a review point
One weekly lesson might be a manageable starting arrangement for focused support when the student can practise independently between sessions. Two shorter or separate contacts may be worth discussing for a larger gap. These are planning examples, not a prescription or a research-backed dose for every learner.
Agree a review date and a clear objective. For example: after a short block of lessons, the student will attempt a fresh set of linear-equation questions without prompts. If the objective is too broad to check, the decision to continue or change the timetable becomes harder.
Count practice time as part of the plan
Ask what the student should do between sessions. A tutor may explain a method clearly, but the next independent attempt reveals whether it has become usable. Plan a small amount of appropriate work rather than leaving an unspecified instruction to revise more.
If practice is repeatedly missed, explore why. The task might be too difficult, the instructions unclear or the week already full. A realistic adjustment can be more useful than adding another lesson to an overloaded timetable.
Make the cost visible
At our rate of 79 SAR per hour, four one-hour lessons cost 316 SAR, eight cost 632 SAR and twelve cost 948 SAR. These are examples for the stated number of hours, not monthly subscriptions: calendar months contain different numbers of lesson dates.
For multiple subjects or siblings, calculate the total booked hours. Confirm the actual dates and cancellation terms before paying. A smaller, purposeful plan that fits the family budget can be easier to sustain than an ambitious schedule that must stop suddenly.
Know what would justify a change
Consider adjusting the plan if a diagnosed gap needs more guided work, an exam deadline changes or the learner is ready for greater independence. Use work samples and the student’s experience to guide the discussion. A single disappointing test is a reason to investigate, not proof that more tutoring is always required.
When the original goal has been reached, ask whether sessions can become less frequent or move to a different purpose. A useful plan explains how support can change as the student improves.
